We're looking for essays on philosophy of mind, broadly construed: consciousness, memory, personal identity, free will, philosophy of art, philosophy of AI, and anything adjacent. We publish student writers alongside guest pieces from researchers and academics, and we care more about a genuine, well-argued idea than about credentials.

How we evaluate submissions

Every submission is read in full by an editor, not judged on its opening paragraph. We're not looking for a settled answer: we're looking for writing that sits with a hard question long enough to say something true about it, even if the honest conclusion is "here's exactly where this gets difficult." Concretely, that means grounding the argument in something specific and checkable (a real citation, a real example, a real case), taking an actual position rather than hedging every claim, and engaging with the strongest version of a counterargument rather than the easiest one to knock down.

We also appreciate submissions that reference or link to existing primers or essays on the site where there's a genuine connection to your argument, it helps a piece join the conversation already happening here rather than sit next to it. Don't worry if you're not sure what already exists: if we think a connection is worth drawing and you haven't, we'll suggest it ourselves after reviewing your draft.

You'll hear back by email within two weeks either way. If a piece isn't quite there yet but the idea is worth pursuing, we'll say so directly and invite you to revise and resubmit, by email, rather than leaving you to guess or ask; there's no separate process to track down, just reply to that same email thread with the new draft.

Guidelines

• 300–2,500 words, though strong pieces outside that range will still be read.
• Original and unpublished elsewhere.
• Write for a curious general reader, not a seminar room. Define terms as you introduce them.
• Take a real position. We'd rather publish an essay we disagree with than one that hedges everything.
